201

Suite for eight: $134 per night (here)

Darlings,
This weekend I got to spend it with my girls
in the gorgeous city of Chicago.

We were celebrating one of my friend's bachelorette
and I had the honor of playing "event planner"
for the weekend.

Thanks to Airbnb (Shout-out to Megan!) and Urban Holiday Lofts
I was able to book the most marvelous loft right in the heart of
Wicker Park, Chicago's most thriving neighborhood.

I definitely recommend this over a hotel ANY day.

Best three years of my life...

Today is April 18th 2012, a very special day to Mariel and me.
It won’t be marked as a national holiday on your calendars
but on mine it is circled, marked, and written all over.
It was on April 18th 2009 that I was sitting on a beach with the most beautiful
young lady with the intention of asking her to be my girlfriend.
I was scared to death and anxiously waiting for the perfect
moment to ask the question. The only problem was that,
when you are so nervous that you can’t even think straight,
the perfect moment can pass in the blink of an eye.
In my mind, that perfect moment would be the sunset, so I kept making
excuses to prolong our day at the beach. Poor Mariel, she must have
thought I was crazy for wanting to stay at the beach ALL day,
but she stayed despite everything which is just one of the
things I love about her so much.

As the sun began to set I knew that it was now or never.
I turned to her and she looked me in the eyes.
I opened my mouth and…….and…….and nothing came out.
I sat there for another minute trying to muster all the courage I
could and when I finally felt ready I turned to her again and started
from the top.  Just as I began my long thought out speech
cloud started to drift across the sky.
"There is no way that it’s going to block out the entire sunset,"
I thought to myself, "I’m still good".  Of course I was wrong.
This lone cloud completely eradicated the beautiful sunset I had
waited all day for. I'm sure I had the most disappointed look
on my face. Her gaze held fast and I tried to smile and ignore
the fact that my sunset, OUR sunset, which was the whole reason
we had stayed at the beach in the first place, would not be there.
I then decided that it was still my moment and even though my plans
may not have been followed to the letter, it was still OUR moment together.
I don’t think I need to tell you what her answer was since I
assume you all know by now, but it was yes by the way.
From that moment on my life was forever changed for the best.

Looking back to the very beginning, and all the wonderful times leading
up to this moment, I still can’t believe how quickly time has gone by.
I cannot say that it has all been easy, we've had our share of struggles and
obstacles to overcome, but no matter what they were we went through
them together. Mariel is the strongest, most loving, passionate, and caring
person I have ever had the privilege to know and it is such a blessing
to have her in my life but it’s even better to have her as my girl.
Today is our day and no matter what may come our way we are in
it together and I wouldn't want it any other way.

This day will always hold a special place in my heart.
There will be many other days of significance that the two of us will
share but we are talking about today and today is April 18th 2012.
I’m honored that Mariel would think of me and ask me to write today’s post.
I love you so very much Mariel Torres and I promise to uphold the vow
I made to you on that beach three years ago today.
That I will be there for you no matter how hard the
road ahead may become.  That I will love and cherish you.
That I will love you with a love that will never die.

To anyone who has that special someone in their life,
I don’t know what your special day is but may it be
filled with many special memories.
My wish for all of you is to seize the day and to live
everyday like it was your last.
We have to make sure that our loved ones know how much they
mean to us each every single day, 24/7, and not just on our
anniversaries or holidays.
This is my prayer for each one of you and what I strive for.
I wish you all a wonderful April 18th

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Darlings,
This morning was a breakfast-in-bed type of day.

So I got up and made something I had been craving for a while...
Strawberry pancakes with boiled eggs and more strawberries.

I placed it all on a tray and took it upstairs
where I crawled back into bed and watched
Breakfast at Tiffany's.

I figured that if I was going to watch that movie
again, today would be the perfect day for it.

It was.
